Intermittent fasting activates many biological pathways in the human body, namely autophagy, ketosis, and cellular repair. These effects could be just what many patients need to reverse diabetes and overcome obesity, and forward-thinking doctors have taken note.

One such doctor is Dr. Jason Fung, who is a pioneer of intermittent fasting in the clinical setting. He returns to the program after first appearing 2 years ago, and we both agree that we have seen the practice soar to popularity, in both culture and medicine, during that time. Dr. Fung’s nutrition and wellness company, IDM, has grown tremendously since then as well.

We discuss the similarities of the end goals of intermittent fasting and the ketogenic diet, the hacks one can use during a fast and when they should use them, and how fasting can be the cure for the underlying root cause of Type 2 diabetes.

  1. What if there was a way to multiply the benefits of intermittent fasting while also making it easier to accomplish?

HVMN Fasting Aid replenishes the electrolytes you use while you fast and helps suppress appetite. It contains polyphenols including green tea catechins & resveratrol, promoting the natural autophagy and cell-longevity benefits of fasting. Try it out here:

  2. OMG, this interviewer needs to stop interrupting and trying to insert what little knowledge he has to share, so he can prove himself. Dude, we want to hear from Dr. Fung—not you.

  3. @HVMN Please, I REALLY want to reverse my Hypoglycemia that I've had since my 20s. I was Dx'd then and I would love to eliminate it and prevent DM which runs in my family. Help!! PLEASE does Dr. FUNG have fb or other page; etc.?

  4. Fasting 18 hrs eating 2 meals within 6 hrs (keto plan)
Blood sugars still high >200 so
Maybe I should just know my insulin is down and not worry about the blood sugar numbers?

  5. I have a better understanding of science catching up with and explaining why the Bible says Fast. Thanks to Dr Jason Fung

  6. Neverheard Dr. Fung until today, going down a rabbit hole of fasting, Dr Berg i sub to and Thomas Lauer. I like how Dr. Fung says that is just stupid to think that way… I paraphrase but he hit the nail on the head, when he said There's no money in it. For pharma, but Im sure he's made something off his books and that is a good thing. I need vegetarian and vegan options.

  7. Dude, the interviewer needs to slow down. I had trouble following what he was saying – like "keegeni". No, it's pronounced, kee-to-gen-ic. Enunciation counts in the communication industry. So slow down and enunciate all the syllables.

  8. There is a way to consider epigenetics and also mitochondrial DNA (inherited from the mother) as a "genetic" reason for obesity or cancer to be inherited. I am convinced that Dr. Fung unwittingly restricts his statements in this video to the human nuclear genome without considering the logical reasoning why these two genetic effects I mentioned would contribute to obesity and cancer.

  9. If a person is not over weight, and have tip 2 diabetes, good kidneys, steel can he reverse diabetes?

  10. Can I do a vegan, no bread, pasta, or processed foods, along with a one meal a day intermittent fasting will it still help lower insulin resistance, or do I have to do keto. Reason is I get gout when I eat meat.

  11. Hmmm, too much insulin? Yes too much carbohydrates demands more production of the body, but for diabetics it’s the opposite, we have to now inject our insulin to counter the sugar in our blood. Diabetic mellitus.

  12. To me it seems relatively obvious that our bodies have been honed for thousands of years to perform their best at the "feast and famine" type of diet, otherwise known as "intermittent fasting". Forever humans have had to hunt and gather their food daily and many days they came up empty, then suddenly they kill a buffalo, or other large animal and they feast, pack on pounds to get them through until the next big hunt. Sugars were only available during one time of year usually in the form of fruit. Seems rather elementary.

  13. Dr Fung is the man, this man deserves a Nobel prize in medicine for sure, this man gave me a future to look forward to thank you Dr Fung🙏🙏👍👍🥳🥳🥳

  14. Very interesting….thank you! I’ve just recently started watching Dr. Fung for answers about type 2 diabetes and am mesmerized by his theories. I can see some fasting in my future!

  15. lost 40 lbs so far from intermittent fasting without changing what I eat. I just really reduce the time in which I eat it.

  16. Seems to me that when medicine is faced with evidence that it doesn't expect, it ignores the evidence to preserve its originally (incomplete) conclusions.

  17. Doctors today are not even doctors they are greedy mindless people who just dont care. there are a few of them that are awesome! Dr jason Fung, Dr berg Dr Berry Dr shmidt and may more Dr axe the truth doctors!

  18. Hello, this video has been out long time.. just today I discovered about it. It is one of the greatest video I have ever watched.
